In Sacramento, there are several valuable resources available for youth that focus on empowerment, education, job training, and overall well-being. Here are some key resources that you might find helpful:
Sacramento Works Youth Programs – focus on workforce development for youth and young adults aged 16-24. These programs offer support services, occupational skills training, mentoring, and guidance to help youth enter the workforce with confidence. The programs also include specific initiatives like the SMUD High School Internship Program, which gives students hands-on experience in various professional fields.
Sacramento Youth Center – Mentoring programs, workforce training, one-on-one support and so much more, to make sure all youth have the opportunities and experiences they need to have hope for their future.
City of Sacramento’s Green Careers Initiative offers an exciting opportunity for youth to break into climate-related careers. The city is providing $1 million in grant funding to local nonprofits that offer workforce training in the “clean and green” sector. This initiative aims to create internships and jobs for youth aged 16-30, with a focus on enhancing Sacramento’s climate resilience and providing valuable career experience.
Wraparound Services: Sacramento County’s High Fidelity Wraparound (HFW) program is designed to provide personalized support for youth and their families during challenging times. This program focuses on stability and permanency, working closely with families to prevent the need for more intensive care such as group home placements. The services are tailored to meet the individual needs of each youth, helping them overcome obstacles and build a positive future.
Youth Mental Health Services: The county offers a range of mental health services through its Behavioral Health Services department. Youth can access crisis support through programs like The Source Sacramento, which provides 24/7 crisis counseling via call, text, or in-person visits. Additionally, the Youth Help Network (YHN) supports Transition Age Youth (TAY) with services including peer support, health navigation, housing resources, and job readiness, particularly focusing on marginalized groups such as LGBTQ+ youth and those experiencing homelessness
Behavioral Health Youth Advisory Board: Sacramento County also encourages youth engagement in policy-making through the Behavioral Health Youth Advisory Board. This board empowers youth to use their voices to influence policies related to mental health and substance use prevention, ensuring that services are youth-friendly and culturally relevant.
Youth Sports Leagues: The City’s Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment offers organized sports leagues, including basketball, soccer, and baseball, providing youth with opportunities to stay active, learn teamwork, and build confidence
These resources are part of a larger effort in Sacramento to support youth development and prevent adverse behaviors by engaging them in positive, impactful activities. Each of these programs is designed to help youth navigate critical life stages and build successful futures.
